Bring this important history in your classroom thoughtfully and intentionally. Here are a few places to start:

For teachers of reading, writing and social studies at all grade levels:  The May Book Project offers an extensive and well-vetted booklist to help ensure that curricula and libraries include a diverse range of Asian-American literature. The booklist is divided by reading level. They also have a useful rubric to help educators to review and evaluate youth literature.

For history teachers: Check out three mini-lessons about Asian Americans who tried to use the court system to protect their rights and ended up bringing cases all the way to the US Supreme Court. You do need a free iCivics account to access.

For high school art teachers:  The National Gallery of Art has an in-depth article on Asian-American artists to know, with short written descriptions and beautiful images.

For union educators of all kinds: Build your own knowledge of Asian-American, Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian labor leaders in this article from NEA Today.
