AEA Statement on Hobbs' Veto of Gun Bills SB1331 and HB2332

Yesterday evening, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed SB1331, which would have forced school boards to allow parents with concealed carry permits to bring their guns on to campuses. She also vetoed HB2332, which would have made ineffective, NRA-sponsored gun safety classes mandatory for Arizona middle and high school students.

PHOENIX – Yesterday evening, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed SB1331, which would have forced school boards to allow parents with concealed carry permits to bring their guns on to campuses. She also vetoed HB2332, which would have made ineffective, NRA-sponsored gun safety classes mandatory for Arizona middle and high school students.

In response, AEA President Marisol Garcia released the following statement:

“I still can’t believe that anyone thinks it’s a good idea to encourage more guns on school campuses. When educators are completely left out of the conversation, bills like HB2332 and SB1331 are the result. We’re grateful to Governor Hobbs for vetoing this misguided legislation. Perhaps now our state legislators can try moving forward with bills that actually address the terrifying and very real problem of gun violence in our schools.”
